Am I Healthy Enough to Move to a Life Plan Community?

Health Criteria and Lifecare Eligibility

Wondering if certain pre-existing health conditions might prevent you from moving into a lifecare retirement community (CCRC) like Woodland Pond in New Paltz? It’s a common concern! Sometimes, waiting too long to make the move can mean not qualifying for a contract due to health criteria or sudden health events.

CCRC Health Evaluation Process

If you’re considering a community like Woodland Pond, you’ll need to meet certain health requirements. The evaluation process might include:

  • Completing a health questionnaire with your physician
  • Providing recent medical records
  • Undergoing a short medical exam with your physician
Common Health Issues

Don’t worry, common age-related health issues usually won’t disqualify you from moving into a lifecare retirement community. The evaluation looks at your overall health to see if you can live independently and assess the likelihood of needing long-term care.

Understanding the Importance of Health Evaluations and Couples Eligibility

The CCRC health evaluation process can be nuanced and varied by community. The evaluation helps manage financial viability and provides peace of mind. Woodland Pond has a list of criteria that need to be met to be approved for Independent Living and a list of criteria that need to be met to be approved for Lifecare coverage. Lifecare is an insurance plan and therefore can disqualify coverage for certain pre-existing conditions. Health evaluations help manage the community’s overall risk.

For couples, one spouse might qualify for care benefits while the other does not, but both can still live independently in the community if they both meet the criteria for Independent Living. For those not approved for Lifecare, services and fees remain the same until higher levels of care are needed.

Lifecare Advantage at Woodland Pond

Choosing The Lifecare Advantage at Woodland Pond means paying a one-time entrance fee and a Lifecare fee, which covers long-term services with minimal additional costs.

The entrance fee is determined by the apartment or cottage-style home you select, which contract type you select, and whether you are single or part of a couple. You will pay a recurring monthly service fee based on the selected residence and number of occupants. You will pay a one-time Lifecare fee. Then, if or when you are ever in need of long-term services in any of our more supportive environments (Assisted Living with or without memory support or Skilled Nursing), you will receive lifetime care while maintaining your current service fee, with just a slight increase of $20 per day for two extra meals per day—and that’s it!
